Funeral for Former UWUA National President Don Wightman

November 17, 2021

It is with much sadness we inform you that Brother Donald E. Wightman passed away yesterday, November 16, in Walpole, Massachusetts.

Don started his career in 1957, and progressed through the UWUA ranks starting as a Local 369 Union Steward, moving to Secretary-Treasurer, Local 369 Union President, National Vice President, and finally, National President, which he served as from 1995 through his retirement in 2006.

His passion for the union and the welfare of its workers came through as he served as a principal negotiator in multiple bargaining agreements throughout his career. Even after retirement, Don continued dedicating his life to the welfare of individuals in his community, as he volunteered full-time at the SHINE Center in Walpole, helping seniors obtain benefits and medical assistance.

Don truly touched the lives of so many, and our communities are better today because of him. We strive to continue his legacy, and we hope his story inspires members for decades to come.
