Our UWUA's Operation Family Reunion Trust Contributions Increase to $425,000.00 In February, the Operation Family Reunion Trustees and Advisors presented a check in the amount od $25,000 to the fisher House foundation on the grounds of the Walter Reed Medical Center near Washington D.C. Our young men and womensoldiers are recipients of contributions as they go through extensive rehabilitation while they are staying at one of three charity owned group homes on the military complex. The medical profession commends th concept of soldiers having loved ones at their side, bringing some normalcy to their lives while enduring their long-term recovery. The money is provided to assist the families with daily living expenses, ranging from baby diapers to transportation and the finances are prudently dispensed by the Fisher House Management, a highly rated charity according to multiple watchdog groups, noted in the March 5, 2007 Newsweek Edition. Since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the multi-media has kept us fully aware of the "true cost of war". To date more than 24,000 woman and men of our armed services have become casualties and the death toll has exceeded 3,200. Remarkably our soldiers have suffered far fewer fatalities because of the advances in medicine, technology, and battlefield MASH Units.... Unfortunately, our troops come home to their next battle, mental and physical disabilities. The Walter Reed Medical center has became the primary treatment center for amputees and Bethesda the primary burn center.... The Union movement is comprised of working class families that value responsibility to the health and welfare of others. UWUA Locals, Officers, and their employers have embraced this charity since 2003 and have become the largest donor to the Walter Reed Army Fisher House. This year, UWUA Trustees and Advisors are asking our Union brothers and sisters for donations. With your help, our goal to reachthe $500,000.00 plateau is within sight! Your help will be greatly appreciated written by Gerald. B. Robertson, Operations Family Reunion Advisor, Region IV U.W.U.A. »
