Political Action

Elected officials have tremendous power to shape the world we live in. That's why UWUA Local 369 gets involved in the political process--so we can fight for legislation that benefits you economically.

And that's why we encourage you to get politically active, too. The more we can pull together and make sure legislators hear our voices, the better shot we have at making a difference.

The Employee Free Choice Act

The current system of forming unions in the United States is broken. Over 60 million workers state that they would join a union today if they could, but most of these workers are deprived of the opportunity to collectively bargain for a fair contract because employers routinely break the law without repurcussion. The Employee Free Choice Act is a bipartisan piece of legislation that will level the playing field for workers who wish to join a union and have a voice at work.

Meet the Candidates... Just the Facts!

Barack Obama

Barack Obama was born in the 50th State, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. His father, Barack Obama Sr., was born and raised in a small village in Kenya, where he grew up herding goats with his own father, who was a domestic servant to the British.

COPE Report

The COPE committee has been pursuing legislation on behalf of the Local 369. I would like to give special thanks to Leo Fetherston and his committee from the O&M North for the incredible work they have done on behalf of Kevin’s Law. The Local is now working in conjunction with NSTAR on this bill. We are in the process of drafting language that works for everyone involved. The COPE Committee would like to thank Dave Dorant and Joe Nolan of NSTAR who have worked tirelessly on behalf of this legislation.

UWUA Endorses Senator Barack Obama for President

After serious consideration, our National Executive Board voted to endorse Senator Barack Obama for President.

With 70,000 active and retired members, including nearly 10,000 in Ohio and another 8,000 in Pennsylvania - critical primary states - we can truly make a difference in the Democratic primary and in the general election this fall.

Senator Obama understands our issues, supports our goals and will do what is right for utility workers, our families, our communities and our country. That is why we are joining him in his fight for change in America that will put working people first. I urge every local union to help organize our members to get involved in his campaign to lead this country forward.

Governor Speaks at Gompers Education Conference

The Governor renewed his campaign commitment to work with the Labor Movement in the Commonwealth at the Massachusetts AFL-CIO's Gompers-Murray-Meaney education conference in North Falmouth, MA. He has already delivered on his promise to create a new cabinet level position, the Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development and has appointed George Noel, former IBEW Local 1505 Business Manager/Financial Secretary, as the Director of Labor.
