NSTAR expands their use of GPS (Global Positioning System)

I would like to congratulate our members at ElecComm on a four year first contract. Members ratified the contract on Thursday April 6th. A special thanks to Chief steward Derek Grant and the negotiation committee led by Dan Hurley.

At NSTAR they are expanding their use of GPS (Global Positioning System). The Overhead and Underground Trouble vehicles are next on the schedule. The Company will also be placing GPS on Nstar vehicles associated with maintenance and construction departments throughout the service territory. Please be aware that we have had a couple of unnecessary suspensions with the GPS system.. The Company is using GPS the same way they use the sensor card records. The Local has continually met with the Company to convince them not to waste shareholder money on this system.

The Company has also notified the Local of its plans to go forward with the Arcos (Automated Calling System) System and is looking for the Local's help on inserting work rules and agreements into the system.

At EXELON the Company has filed with New England ISO an application for deactivation of New Boston Station, the first step in ISO's review of the continued need of the station for area electric reliability. New Boston has been operating for New England ISO as an RMR, or Reliability Must Run Agreement that expires Jan. 31,2007. This is the third time New England ISO has conducted a review of the need for New Boston's generation. A decision is expected by the end of July. Exelon has committed to the Local that when a decision is made they will:

1. Review decommissioning plan with Local

2. To use 369 employees for work in connection with decommissioning.

3.  The availability of severance pay for employees.

The filing of this application will not have any impact on the Medway and Framingham Jets These plants will continue their operation.

Members from Boston Generating 8&9-Foreriver met at the hall on June 7th. The group started to formulate a plan for the upcoming contract Negotiations. I am excited at the membership dedication and attention to detail Members will be notified for the next meeting.

The RCN Negotiations have been moving forward in the right direction. I would like to thank the RCN members for their patience and I commend the bargaining committee for their hard work.

At Entergy Kevin Bronson is the new Plant manager replacing Peter Dietrich who was re-assigned to Fitzpatrick in New York.

At Maverick Construction we have had several disputes with the I.B.E.W. over jurisdiction of work. I would like to thank Nstar Underground Inspector Pat Bray for fighting for the utility work for his brothers at Maverick. This is our work and we need to protect it!

At Distrigas the Local is keeping a close watch on the ongoing dispute over LNG tankers in Boston Harbor. We will keep you posted.
