National Grid Workers Reach Contract Agreement

The previous contract expired at midnight Friday. Terms of the deal will not be announced until it is ratified by the union. A vote is planned in about two weeks.

Cheryl LaFleur, chief of National Grid's U.S. electricity distribution business, said it includes wage and staffing increases.

Gary Sullivan, president of the union council that includes six locals in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, said the agreement benefits both National Grid and workers.

The company said it also expects to reach agreement on a new contract with about 575 electrical workers. Talks with the electrical workers union continued Saturday.
