Gary Sullivan
Gary SullivanPresident Gary began working at Boston Edison's Meter Records Division in July of 1980. In 1981 Gary transferred to the Underground Mass Ave Division as a Cable Installer. Gary remained in the Underground until he was elected Secretary-Treasurer in March of 1996. While in the Underground, Gary also held the rate of Splicer's Helper, Splicer A&B, Troubleshooter, and Construction Inspector Cable A. Gary served as Steward, Chief Steward, and Safety Representative while in the Underground. In 2002 Gary was elected President of Local 369 in 2002 and re-elected in 2005. He is also a member of the UWUA National Executive Board. In 2006, Gary was elected as the President of the Brotherhood of the Utility Workers. He serves as a Vice President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. Gary was born in Boston in June 1960 and grew up in Hyde Park with his 4 brothers and sisters where he also met hit wife Valerie. He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in 1978 and in 1995 from UMASS Boston where he double majored in Law and Labor Studies. Gary was awarded the Robert J. Watt Fellowship Award to attend the prestigious Harvard University Trade Union Program where he studied Economics and Union Strategies and Tactics and graduated in 1999. Before being elected to a fulltime position at Local 369 Gary was very active in his community. He served in Hanover Youth Athletic Association as a coach and director in both baseball and basketball as well as Hanover Youth Hockey as a coach and a director. Gary's 3 children are all grown now which has allowed him the time to serve the Local. Gary and Valerie's three children are:
Timothy - University of Richmond 2002 Duties of the President FROM THE BY-LAWS OF LOCAL 369 UTILITY WORKERS UNION OF AMERICA, AFL-CIO ARTICLE IV Section 8. The President shall be a full-time employee of the Local. He/She shall be the chief executive officer of the Local and shall have responsibility to carry out the mandates of the Executive Board and Membership. He/She shall preside at all Executive Board and general membership meetings and make reports at these meetings as to the Local's business. He/She shall report all decisions and recommendations of the Executive Board to the membership at regular and special membership meetings. He/She shall report all absences from the Executive Board meetings by name and reason for such absence. He/She shall co-sign, with the Secretary-Treasurer or the Executive Vice-President, all checks and withdrawals from the Local's accounts. The President shall enforce the National Constitution and the Local's By-Laws, and appoint all Sergeants-at-Arms and Committees not otherwise specified in the By-Laws. At his/her discretion, he/she shall be an ex-officio member of all Committees. The President, or his/her designee, shall be responsible for all communications with the press. He/she shall perform all other duties as are necessary to protect and advance the interests of the Local Union and/or required by the membership. |
