This federal law entitles workers to take 12 weeks up unpaid leave in a 12 month period in the event of:

• Medical disability
• Family medical care
• Newborn care

The goal of this law is to protect workers from losing their jobs when they become seriously ill or when taking care of loved ones who need their attention.
