Exec Vice Pres Reports
The BUW meetings have started up again. All of the Locals of the BUW have started organizing campaigns to continue the pursuit of our goal of organizing the unorganized at National Grid. All of the Locals are working together on achieving this important goal. We have had a very positive reponse on our campaign from all of the work platforms. We have had 2 informational meetings and the websites have been a very effective communication tool. The Cope Committee has had an extremely busy summer. One of the highlight for the committee was an invitation to meet the speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. The local 369 COPE Committee was part of a very small group invitied to meet with her. We discussed many issues affecting working families. The Local 369 COPE Committee has worked extremely hard to increase our visibility and influence in the polical area and now that the election season is upon us we have been receiving many requests for endorsements from polital candidates. The COPE Committee will review these requests and make our recommendations to support the candidates that best represent working families. The COPE Committee members are involved in many political races where we have been manning phone banks and door to dorr labor walks. The COPE Committee has also been working very hard to prevent licensing legislation that would adversely affect our gas and electric members. This is yet again another attack on our work. We do not believe that an electrician’s license makes you a Utility Worker just as being a Utility Worker does not make you an Electrician. »
