EXELON — I am sure many of you have heard over the years that New Boston Station (L St. Station) would be closing. The Local was officially notified on July 10th 2007 that New England ISO granted Exelon permission to de-activate New Boston Station. The de-activation began on August 1st and is expected to be completed by November 30th. The Local entered into effects bargaining on July 13th as a result of the de-activation notification. The company’s plan is to close New Boston but to maintain the peak units at New Boston as well as Medway and Framingham. The effects bargaining dealt with the amount of jobs to maintain the jet sites but also included a severance package for our members being laid off. The membership ratified the severance package on August 27th. The Local is working with the AFL-CIO and the State Rapid Response team in assisting our members. I would like to commend the Bargaining Committee for all of their hard work. MIRANT — We have been very busy hearing arbitrations. This summer we heard three arbitration cases involving Mirant. Two of the arbitrations are complete and the remaining one is scheduled for another day of hearing on September 19th. We will keep you updated as we receive the awards. I would like to thank the Union leadership at the plant for all of their help. NSTAR — We have several arbitrations scheduled for this fall and winter on issues ranging from terminations to job spec violations. We also had two manhole incidents involving two underground members. I would like to wish Terry Foley and Jack Carr a speedy recovery from their injuries and to commend the swift action of their co-workers-Underground Inspector Pat Bray,UG3 Jarel Niles,UG1 John Estes,UG3 Kara Murphy and UG1 John Kinch. BOSTON GENERATING — We have received some favorable arbitration awards recently and expect more in the near future. I would like to thank the Union leadership at the plants for all of their hard work. ENTERGY — We are also awaiting decisions on some arbitration cases and will let you know as soon as we hear. We did receive a decision were the arbitrator over turned the termination of a nuclear operator. I want to thank Dave Leonardi and the other members of the leadership at Pilgrim for their efforts on these arbitrations. We are preparing for contract negotiations and ask that our members begin to prepare as well. We expect that Entergy will want to continue where they left off in the 2004 contract by eroding our contract and benefits. The Pilgrim Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 20th at the Halifax Country Club by all accounts everyone had a good day. In closing I would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable fall. »
